The programme

You'll travel from Savona by bus to Piazza Caricamento, the ancient unloading site for goods from the port. You're in the Ancient Port here, although only the name is ancient: it features the Bigo, a panoramic elevator, and the Biosfera designed by Renzo Piano, as well as Europe's biggest aquarium. * Venture into the labyrinth of the “caruggi”, the narrow alleys of the medieval quarter. Walk to Via Garibaldi, also known as Strada Nuova, and pause to admire the façades of the Rolli, the palaces built by the nobility between the Renaissance and Baroque periods and named UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2006. You can visit the Palazzo Rosso, Bianco and Tursi museums: all of them are also accessible to guests with restricted mobility. * In Piazza Portello, take the Liberty elevator to Spianata Castello for a 360° view of the city and the port. * At Piazza Ferrari you'll find the Doge's Palace, the former home of the Doges, now a cultural hub of the city. Here too, access is assured by means of ramps and internal elevators. The same goes for the San Lorenzo Cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic and Romanesque art that holds the ashes of St. John the Baptist.

Good to know
  • During the tour, a local guide will provide you with assistance and information.
  • The “No Barriers Tour” is a collaboration between the Costa Cruises Foundation and the Italian Multiple Sclerosis Association (AISM) to offer “slower” excursions with fewer obstructions. The “No Barriers Tour” version of this excursion is available exclusively on Costa Smeralda or Costa Diadema.
  • If you are a wheelchair user, the “No Barriers Tour” must be booked through your cruise contact.
  • This excursion is suitable if you have slight mobility impairments and can walk short distances unassisted. If you are a wheelchair user, the presence of a companion not provided by the ship is required. Most of our operators require the wheelchair to be foldable. However, in some ports there may not be adequate space to accommodate wheelchairs on the bus. Please would you therefore inform the on-board excursions office manager immediately after boarding to immediately reserve your seat on the bus before the tour begins.
