What we will do
  • We leave the port by coach, cross the picturesque town of Seydisfjordur and head inland into eastern Iceland with its steep mountains plunging into the sea, the long fjords and fertile land.
  • We drive by Lake Lagarfljót, the third largest in the country located 100 metres below sea level.
  • We learn about the lakes monster, the legend surrounding it as well as many interesting facts about the lake.
  • We also admire the glimpse of Hengifoss waterfalls stark against a vertical rock face at the end of a gorge. 130 meters high, it is the second highest in Iceland.
  • We continue our excursion and reach the Wilderness Centre, an authentic peaceful haven located on the edge of the largest wilderness area in northern Europe.
  • As soon as we cross the ancient wooden bridge, we embark on a journey back in time. Every detail of its structure was made according to the traditional style to offer visitors an authentic experience and immersed in local culture and traditions.
  • Accompanied by lively cheerful guides, we learn more about this region’s traditional lifestyle and get the chance to talk to the locals and see their customs first hand.
  • We enter the large kitchen of an old farm where we are welcomed as true members of the family. We witness the preparation of local dishes and learn how food was processed and stored in the past.
  • We end this exceptional excursion with a tasting session of local traditional dishes. Those who wish can even try the typical rhubarb wine.
