In a nutshell Amazing Scotland and its most famous combination: great whiskies and great lakes! This excursion is a journey of the senses into the region's most famous spirit with its pungent aromas and round flavours and into the enchanted panoramas surrounding Loch Lomond ranging from the glistening blue of its waters to the deep green of the unspoilt vegetation.

Main stops
  • Panoramic tour of the Scottish hinterland
  • Towns of Bearsden and Milngavie
  • Glengoyne distillery
  • Introduction and whisky tasting session
  • Tour of the distillery
  • Stop on the banks of lake Lock Lomond

The programme
  • While sitting comfortably on our coach, we proceed out from Greenock and across the estuary of the River Clyde to venture into the Scottish hinterland along the road leading to the lovely town of Bearsen, where the ancient Antonine Wall used to be located as testified by a few Roman ruins, and on to the picturesque village of Milngavie.
  • We end up at the famous Gengoyne distillery which nestles in a enchanting peaceful valley characterised by a white building that stands out against the emerald green of the surrounding lush vegetation.
  • This fascinating whisky factory boasts an exceptional peculiarity: the line that traces the border between the Lowlands and Highlands runs right through its buildings, so much so that the distillery is located in the Highlands and the warehouses in the Lowlands!
  • Once inside the visitor centre, we are welcomed by the staff who invite us to savour an amazing single malt whisky with its characteristic strong notes as we attend an introductory presentation on its history.
  • We then enjoy a tour of the distillery that takes us on an exploration of the rooms where the various processing and production phases take place, from the mills, fermentation tanks and distillation mills to the warehouses where the barrels are put to age.
  • We get back on our coach and reach the banks of Lock Lomond, the largest in Great Britain, where we stop to admire its vastness as well as the lovely hilly views surrounding it.

Good to know
  • There is limited availability of Italian speaking guides; if none are available, the excursion will be conducted in English.
  • The tour of the distillery will be led by the staff themselves in English.
