Description An excursion entirely dedicated to discovering the Balata botanical garden, an oasis of peacefulness and tranquillity immersed in the Martinica rainforest where we can stroll among countless tropical plants and brightly coloured exotic flowers: a true feast for the eyes and the soul!

What we will see
  • Balata botanical garden inside the thick rainforest
  • Stroll among countless tropical plants and exotic flowers
  • Typical creole house with period objects and furniture

What we will do
  • We leave Fort-de-France behind us headed towards the northern part of the island and, crossing the thick rainforest along Route de la Trace, we reach the famous Balata botanical garden.
  • Founded in 1982 by Jean-Philippe Those - horticulturist, landscape gardener and poet - this incredible place surrounds his grandparents’ creole house covering at least 2 hectares, is home to a marvellous variety of tropical flora and fauna and is the result of a perfect combination of memories from his childhood and the geniality of a unique artist.
  • We go for a relaxing pleasant stroll around the garden to discover the hundreds of species of tropical plants, brightly-coloured exotic flowers, giant bamboos or Zen tanks delicately surrounded by water lilies as a testimony to the creativity and passion for nature of its creator.
  • Inside the garden, we can also admire a typical creole house with period objects and furniture that takes us back to the colonial atmosphere of times gone by.
