Description Located on the Ionian coast in front of the Gulf of Taranto, Gallipoli is a true gem on the Salento peninsula. Its name derives from the Greek “kalè polis” which means “enchanting city”.

What we will see
  • The historic centre of Gallipoli

What we will do - Known as the “Pearl of the Ionian Sea”, Gallipoli is made up of two parts: the old part with its alleyways and built on an islet connected to the mainland via a 17th-century bridge, and the most recent part, located behind the historic city centre. - As we walk around the most recent part of the city, we admire the “Greek Fountain” which was rebuilt in the 16th century and still boasts decorations dating back to Greek times. - At the entrance of the ancient town, we find the imposing 15th-century castle that stands majestically overlooking the port. - Strolling among the alleys, we discover the Cathedral dedicated to Saint Agatha on the highest point of the island as well as the many lovely churches overlooking the sea and dedicated to the Virgin Mary by fishermen.
