The programme
  • Here you are in the Athenian Acropolis, where philosophers, heroes and great orators exercised the first form of “démos krátos”, government by the people.
  • Our guide will tell you everything you need to know about this UNESCO World Heritage Site, a symbol of the golden age of Greek civilization.
  • The Acropolis, which in Greek means high city, stands on a hill in downtown Athens and provides a view of everything, as far as the sea. A perfect defensive position used since Neolithic times.
  • Climb up to the Temple of Athena Nike, from 425 BC, which celebrates the victories over the Persians. Inside it was once a statue of the goddess Athena, victorious but without wings: Athenians didn't want her to fly away.
  • The Erechtheum dedicated to Athena and Poseidon is the most sacred place of all: here the goddess made an olive tree sprout, thus becoming the patron of the city. Look at the loggia: do you recognize the famous caryatids?
  • It's time for the Parthenon, named after Athena Parthenos, or virgin. Dating from 447 BC, it is an international icon and a model of optical illusions. Try to spot them as you walk down the valley for a sightseeing tour of the city.
