The programme
  • Forget everything you know about Athens and rediscover it from scratch on a guided sightseeing bus tour of the most distinctive districts of the Greek capital.
  • Travel from the Zea Marina, the ancient military port built by Themistocles during the Punic Wars, to the Acropolis*, situated on a hill in downtown Athens.
  • Admire the Parthenon: it's much bigger than it looks in the books, don't you think? In the 5th century it contained a statue of Athena, the city's patron, that was 11 meters tall and covered in gold and ivory.
  • From sacred icons to the symbols of sport: the historic Panathenaic stadium, the only one in the world to be made entirely of marble, is definitely worth a photo.
  • Continue to the old town, among neoclassical buildings like the University and the National Academy, towards Plaka, the oldest and most picturesque neighborhood, with neoclassical homes from the 19th century that will remind you of the Cyclades.
  • It's now time for a walk among the tavernas and boutiques, discovering real architectural gems such as the ancient Agora, the Tower of the Winds and the monument to Lysicrates. Don't miss them.
