The programme
  • We will leave the jetty just below Akershus Fortress, which was first built in Medieval times and was then rebuilt in Renaissance style in the first half of the 1600s.
  • We will pass by the Franklin D. Roosevelt statue built to commemorate the speech made by the US President during the Second World War.
  • The first stop will be the City Hall or Oslo rådhus, a Functionalist that houses offices as well as many works of art by Norwegian artists.
  • A short walk will take us to the National Theatre, a Neoclassical building with statues of writers Henrik Ibsen and Bjørnson in the front.
  • We will continue on foot towards the Royal Palace, known locally as Det kongelige Scott, which was built in the 19th century by King Charles III and has 173 rooms.
  • Then we will take Oslo's main Karl Johan road through the University of Oslo to reach the Parliament founded in 1890.
  • After that, we will move towards one of the main sights of the city - the futuristic Opera House. Designed by Snøhetta, who also designed the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt, the Opera House covers 38,500 square metres and has 1,100 rooms. The main hall can sit 1,350 people. The building won several prizes such as the award in the culture category at the World Architecture Festival in Barcelona in 2008, the Mies van der Rohe Award in 2009 and the EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture.
  • Our last stop will be Akershus fortress before heading back to the ship.
